The very first step toward learning to play acoustic guitar is to develop confidence and to destroy that “I can’t do it” mentality. Your biggest obstacle in your acoustic guitar playing is not going to be money, time, or the absence of a good teacher. The biggest obstacle is going to be you. You are your own worst enemy. Once you learn how to tame the negativity inside, you will be that much closer to becoming a good acoustic guitar player.
Frustration is normal during the learning process. Learning anything new is not meant to be easy. Resistance is what helps us grow. So the next time you are working on a scale, or chord progression, and you find yourself fumbling or messing up, don’t throw down the guitar with frustration, instead welcome the challenge and have patience in it.
YOUR FIRST GUITAR
Buying a first guitar is an important step for the beginner guitarist. You should have a good understanding of the acoustic guitar as a whole as well as a good idea of what your goals are as an acoustic guitar player. By educating yourself in these areas, you will be able to make an intelligent purchase that can provide you with years of enjoyable playing.
There are two kinds of acoustic guitars that you can purchase and they are your classic or nylon string guitar and your steel string guitar. One is not necessarily better than the other as it is really a matter of personal taste, but each guitar does have its own unique feel and sound. The classic or nylon guitars produce a round or dull tone, where as the steel string guitars are much different, producing a bright tinny or metallic sound. You will certainly develop your own preference the longer you play, or like many guitarists, you will enjoy using both. Only time will tell.
Another thing you will have to consider is the body style of your acoustic guitar. Acoustic guitars come in a variety of different body sizes from small to jumbo. Each size has its own distinct sound. Smaller body guitars have more treble and midrange sounds and are much easier to hold. Lead guitarists tend to favor smaller body guitars because they tend to have a more balanced sound to them and are easier to make out when playing with other musicians in a band. Your larger body guitars have more bass and are more difficult to hold. The only way to really know what body style is right for you is to try one out for yourself. Your best bet is to find a guitar that you are comfortable holding and playing. Guitar playing is challenging enough in the beginning and you do not need any added difficulties.
Guitar quality will differ depending on the model and brand. Sometimes two instruments of the same make and model can differ as well. It is therefore important to try out as many guitars as possible within your price range. It is also recommended that you bring along an experienced musician when you go guitar shopping. An experienced guitar player will be able to better judge the quality of a guitar.
Buy the best guitar that you can afford. Many of the guitars that sell for under $100 are poorly made for the most part. If you cannot afford to spend more, then save up and wait until you can. A well made guitar will be easier to play, more appealing to the eye and more responsive. If you enjoy playing your instrument more, you will then be more inspired to play. You can find a fine beginner acoustic guitar for under $500. Some brands to look into are Seagull, Martin, Yamaha, Fender and Ibanez to name a few. You may also want to look into the used acoustic guitar market. You may be able to find some real gems out there at great prices, but you have to be very careful with used guitars. Make sure you take an experienced guitar player with you if you decide to buy a used guitar.
LEARNING & PRACTICE
There is probably no substitution for a good guitar teacher, but it can be rather expensive over time, so many guitar players are left with no other choice then to learn on their own. For those of you who may not be able to afford a professional instructor right now, below are some guidelines for helping you get the most out of your practice time.
Practice as many days out of the week as you can for at least twenty to thirty minutes, more if possible. The more often you play the faster you will learn. Be careful not to overdo it though and take breaks of course. Your brain can only absorb so much information before it needs a break and your hands and the rest of your body need time to recuperate as well. When you practice do not rush through any of your exercises. Twenty minutes of quality focused practice is much more effective than an hour of sloppy practice
Study Your Instrument
Take some time to learn more about the parts of your acoustic guitar. Learn about how it is constructed and how all the parts work together to produce those beautiful sounds that you hear.
Learn How to Tune Your Guitar
You can find free step by step guides online for tuning your acoustic guitar. Make certain that you spend time learning how to do this. Purchase a guitar tuner at any local music store and practice tuning your guitar with the guitar tuner. When you begin to develop a better ear, try tuning it without the guitar tuner. Then use the guitar tuner to check and see how accurate your ear was. This will help you develop a good ear.
Learn the Right Posture
If you are accustomed to just grabbing your guitar and sitting down to play in any old position, then you are at risk of injuring yourself and developing bad playing habits. Make sure you understand the correct way to sit and hold your instrument for optimal performance.
Learn Your Chords & Scales
Learn as many different chords and variations of the same chord that you can and practice your scales. This will give you a well rounded familiarity with the frets on the guitar and it will build up strength in your fingers and hands.
I hope this article has helped with your acoustic guitar learning. Keep a positive attitude and practice! Before you know you will be playing acoustic guitar like a pro. I wish you well. God Bless.

When you’re seeking Fender acoustic guitars to buy online, it’s important that you don’t get ripped off. What this means for you is, on the one hand you do want to find the best deal and the Internet is a great way of doing that; but on the other hand, you might end up buying a Fender acoustic that you never tried out, plus you need to remember that when it comes to musical instruments you get what you pay for. You may get a lot more than you pay for if you shop at an online auction site such as eBay, and they provide ways to minimize the risk of being ripped off. If you choose eBay, always check the seller’s rating. A seller with a high seller rating is just as safe as shopping at a retailer with a high reputation. Needless to say, one pretty safe way of shopping online for Fender acoustic guitars is to go to the Fender website. If you do this, you can search for Fender-approved dealers in your local area that you can visit either online or in person. You really don’t have to worry much about getting ripped off by these guys. However, keep in mind the rule of thumb that under normal circumstances you don’t want to buy an acoustic guitar for less than $400. You can find plenty of them that are less than that, but they are not of high quality construction or design–not even if they do say “Fender”. You will be compromising sound and physical playing quality by going cheap. However, there are ways of going cheap on price without going cheap on quality. Now, you can find good Fender acoustic guitars online for under $400, but you have to take some special steps. One of these would be to shop at eBay or another online auction house. Allthough you do have to act with caution when shopping online, eBay remains one of the safest online auction market places on the internet. Use common sense, and you won’t have too much to worry about. Another method is to do an Internet lookup for individuals selling a Fender acoustic guitar. You can check online classified ads, Craig’s List, and so forth. But once again, you run the risk of paying more for something than you should while trying to save money–and that means you would probably end up getting ripped off, either by accident by some ignorant person or on purpose by some low-life person. So eBay is probably a better idea, as eBay has a seller rating system so you can know that you are shopping from a seller with a high approval rating. If you are looking for an unused guitar, you may want to check out some other places as well; if nothing else just to compare prices. Musician’s Friend is a good site for this. They are like a huge musical instrument and equipment warehouse, and because they have so much volume they can sell most of their merchandise for less than the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. There are also plenty of hands-on reviews of instruments and equipment at their website. They will ship what you buy right to your door. And sometimes, they give you free shipping. Check it out as they are known for low prices on new guitars. If you find a cheaper one of a similar model on eBay, you know that you are getting a good price. Give it some time, and check eBay again. You may find a better price in a week or a month. Otherwise, you can be confident that you are getting a good price on Musician’s Friend. Take your time, shop around, compare prices. It is the only way you can know that you got a good price on your Fender Acoustic Guitar.

It would be a good idea to know a little about an acoustic guitar body make up if you are in the market for an acoustic guitar. If this is your first acoustic that you are buying I strongly edge you to get as much information on the product you wish to procure.
There are numerous types and makes of acoustics present today and they have come a long, long way. They have been changing over the time, from the vintage guitars to the ones we are more familiar with. Did you know that the old kind of acoustics didn’t have steel strings?
The strings that were there before were the nylon strings. The steel strings marked the revolutionary change to the make up of the guitars we know today. The subject about acoustics is so intricate that it would take a whole forest to write about them. Luckily we won’t have to do that.
The main ones to be discussed, at least the ones that are commonly found and used, are the Classic, Dreadnought and the Jumbo. Many people ask if these three are made by the same manufacturer, the answer to that is no. That also explains the difference in shapes and sizes.
Classic Acoustic
These guitars usually have smaller bodies than those of others. The company that manufactures these little works of art, decided to assign numbers to both the 12 fret and 14 fret instruments (frets are the little metal lines you see running across the fretboard). 0, 1 and 2 denoted the 12 while 00 and 000 denoted the 14 fret instruments.
Dreadnought
The guys that made the classic came out with yet another wonderful piece of art. Bigger in size, feel and sound was different, the dreadnought is undoubtedly stylish. The notable D-series ranging from the D-18 to the D-45 are what to look for. They are far from disappointing and would be a very good investment.
Jumbo
Come on, you didn’t think the above two were going to be the only ones did you? What would this place be without competition? Gibson had to retaliate (figure of speech, not in literal sense); martin could not be the only ball player.
The “Flat-tops were born; Gibson had out done themselves this time. They came out with the J-45, J-160E and the so called “Super Jumbo-200″ might have been the best maybe to date even.
Which One Should I Buy?
You know what; it is all about personal preference. The classic is for the people that want a clear and cleaner sound. The Dreadnought and Jumbo in a way are more for the ones going for the bass sound. Classic, Dreadnought and Jumbo are all acoustic guitars and it does not matter which one you buy.
The only thing that matters though is that you should buy a guitar right away and start playing. Don’t you think you have wasted enough time as it is? There you have it, an acoustic guitar body explained; now you can make an informed decision.

Ibanez electric guitars have received quite a following, but a lot of people do not realize that their acoustic line is also well made and sounds great. The company started in 1900 under a different name by Hoshino Gaki in Japan. Though the company began at the turn of the 20th century, they did not start making guitars until 1935.
In general, the company was relatively unknown in the United States until the 60s. Hoshino Gakki partnered with Harry Rosenbloom, an American music shop owner in Pennsylvania. They decided that the name, the Hoshino Gaki Company, did not have what it took to signify success in the West. So, together, they came up with Ibanez, thus making the guitars more marketable based on the name alone.
Some of their early guitars included styles that were modeled after the popular guitars put out by large companies like Gibson and Fender. They were able to find people to use their instruments by offering nearly exact replicas of these brands for inexpensive prices. This helped them get their name out there, but it was not their permanent solution to success.
They no longer model their guitars after the success of others. They currently have their own line of both acoustic and electric guitars and the Ibanez brand is endorsed by some pretty accomplished players. Some of these players even have their own signature models. For example, Steve Vai is a very accomplished solo player and he has his own line through Ibanez which also includes an acoustic model.
Ibanez has a full line of acoustic guitars. These include the acoustic in the Steve Vai signature series, the AE, the Talman, the masa the GA, and the DT. For more information on the acoustic guitar line, visit the website at ibanez. com.
There are also a lot of musicians who love Ibanez guitars in general, and several actively endorse the brand. These include Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and Andy Timmons, who are all accomplished solo players. Other guitarists include Terry Balsamo, Adam Blackstone, and Mike DeWolf. For more information on the artists visit the website.
Here is what some people have to say about their Ibanez Acoustic guitars:
About the Ibanez DT 10
Beautiful style and sound!. Great tone quality, nice finish. I started playing the guitar a little over a year ago. I was lucky to get a good deal on my Ibanez, since I did not even know where to begin. I walked into our local music store, stood at the counter, and said, I want to buy a guitar.
About the Ibanez AW100
This is a good guitar with a great sound. It holds up to the Ibanez reputation with a nice feel and an even better sound. It is a very sturdy guitar that can take a lot of abuse even for an acoustic. It has a nice bright sound and a smooth thin neck.
Another for the Ibanzes AW100
Great sound and solid top for this price is exceptional. Great starter guitar. I have played the guitar for about 12 years no so recently I have been in the market, or at least looking and drooling over, a higher end guitar. My recent research has lead me to be quite up to date on several different guitar makers and the individual.

There are a few important things you need to consider when buying an acoustic beginner guitar.
You think you have a financial situation that allows you to afford a high quality guitar for your first guitar? If you think you can do it then you should definitely go for it. Very often, the tone of the guitar is being reflected in its cost. With a good beginner guitar it should also be easy to play.
The Seagull S6 is undoubtedly one of the best options on the high-end, and it is going to cost you about $400-$500. Although it can be a bit expensive for some beginners, it is still an exceptional instrument for that price. Many professionals will keep their Seagull S6 long after they have piled up a large collection of other guitars. An equally good acoustic beginner guitar on the higher end of the price scale would be the Washburn D10S. It was voted #1 in Acoustic Guitar magazine for guitars under $500. A good number of people searching in this price range will like either the Seagull or the Washburn.
At a more affordable range, you can find the Yamaha F310, FenderDG7 and Takamine G-240. If you are looking for the least expensive acoustic beginner guitar, the Epiphone DR-100 is a good choice. Despite being a beginner instrument, the Epiphone DR-100 is very good value for your money and remains one of the best acoustic beginner guitars.
You should avoid buying the very cheap guitars you see at the local discount store as they are difficult to play with, even for experience guitar players. Their cheap quality means that there is often a lot of space between the strings and the neck, which entails an overly high action. It can be very annoying for a beginner.
Should you have less than $100 to spend, your best option is to purchase a second-hand guitar. The interesting thing is that second-hand guitars can also have their own personalities. If you see two Takamine G-240 in a shop, just try both of them. You must be able to have a “feel” for your guitar in order to make the right choice.
People often see guitars as human beings. You have to care for your guitar like you care for your own kid. If for whatever reason you don’t “feel” your guitar, pick another one.
The last thing you should consider is that you should always ask the salesperson at the music store to play the guitar you want to buy. A good salesperson will always help you choose the right guitar in the best possible way.

Learning to play the acoustic guitar is great. Acoustic guitars bring the notion of uniqueness to a whole new level. Just give it a go and you will see. Just to see what you look like holding one. You are convinced that if you have the time to learn, you would be fine? You do not know whether it’s easy or hard to play the acoustic guitar but you have a musical ear? It’s time for you to take the step and begin your musical journey.
It is some achievement to learn to play the acoustic guitar and most of my friends who have never tried it do not know where to start. It is as if they were getting all shy when seeing one. When you start playing your first notes, you feel like there is no limit to it. It is only a mental cap to pass. Being able to step out of the comfort zone to challenge yourself is something you can do too.
However, just keep one thing in mind: learning to play the acoustic guitar is not similar to magic. When you pick up a new language at school, you go through this period of assimilating new rules and new patterns. At the beginning you find it hard and then, little by little, you become more comfortable with the tools you possess. Then, you start broadening and improving your range of vocabulary, expressions and sentence structures. The same is true with learning to play the acoustic guitar
Once you’ve got the idea of how to play basic notes and -hopefully not long after- how to read guitar tabs, do a web search for easy acoustic guitar tabs and pick out a very basic song that you know well and play around with it. Although reading and playing acoustic guitar tabs does take some getting used to, you’ll be surprised how quickly you can learn to play the acoustic guitar.
If you have a favorite song, being able to hear the song that you’re working on always makes it easier to learn. Even if you think you remember how it goes, listening to it while you’re learning it will help you with rhythm and detail.
Keep in mind that acoustic guitars were created to be played. There are a lot of easy songs you can learn, whether it is from The Eagles, James Taylor or Joni Mitchell. You will never regret the decision you have made to learn to play the acoustic guitar.

Guitar is a very old musical instrument. It is normally played in an unplugged way. But when played in a show, a microphone is also used. Otherwise the sound will not reach every listener. Acoustic guitars have a unique sound.
Microphones sometimes cause different kinds of problems. And for that reason, the use of a proper microphone is ensured for acoustic guitars. Here we will talk about different microphone techniques for acoustic guitars.
The acoustic guitar delivers a varied range of frequencies. The range is from under 100hz to the extent which is not audible to human beings. The resonance of the largest string delivers low frequencies and the plucking system delivers the high frequencies. In most types of acoustic guitars, the sound hole generates the bass sound.
This instrument has always been so popular that people have thought of making some microphone which will not harm the sound of this instrument. And for this reason, a lot of experiments were made on microphones.
After a lot of experiments, dynamic and condenser microphones were made. These two microphones are suitable for acoustic guitars. But among these two, the condenser microphone delivers the most detailed and the brightest sound.
There are small and large diaphragm microphones available. Both of them are perfect for acoustic guitars. But while playing the lead portion of the acoustic guitar, if you stroke the string hard, then a sharp transient will be produced. It is louder than the sustain portion of the waveform. This will not sound well at the time of recording. So it will be better if you use the dynamic microphones for playing the lead portion.
To get a good sound out of the microphone, it is necessary to know where you should keep the microphone. If you keep the mike just in front of the sound hole, then the guitar will create a very dark, boomy sound. Just like that if you put it in front of the neck then it will produce a thin sound. Even the surrounded portion of the bridge will not be able to produce a proper sound, if you put the mike there.
Actually the proper microphone technique for acoustic guitars depends on the instrument itself and the playing pattern. That means it depends also on whether the instrument will be strummed or plucked, and on the music style and the recording place. The perfect place for a microphone is one to two feet away from the acoustic guitar. The mike must be pointing at a place somewhere between the sound hole and the very place where the neck of the guitar meets its body.
If you use a directional mike, then you have to adjust the distance, to make a balance between the proximity effect and the room ambiance. If you use an omni microphone for acoustic guitars, then you will be able to put it closer to the instrument and also will get a sound which is pretty much well balanced.
The most common microphone technique for acoustic guitars is the use of two microphones. One will be closer to the guitar and the other will be a bit far away.
But the interesting thing about microphone techniques is that you do not always have to use all these existing styles. You can try some technique of your own. And perhaps one day you will be able to make a microphone technique that will help many acoustic guitar players.

The guitar is possibly the world’s most popular instrument in rock, pop or light western music today. The guitar’s fame is largely owed to Elvis Presley, whose iconic images almost always show him singing with a guitar in his hands. So never mind if your voice doesn’t match Elvis – don’t sing, strum a guitar and make good music!Acquiring and wrapping your fingers around your own, personal guitar to get its ‘feel’ is always a good idea. We recommend you to go in for a used acoustic guitar. Here’s what, why and how . . . Unlike, say, an electric guitar, an acoustic guitar neither needs nor uses any external devices to enhance its sound volume and quality. Remember, guitars are seldom played solo. They’re played along with other, often noisy, instruments. Naturally, if you’re the guitarist you want to be distinctly heard by and be properly audible to the audience. You might not be blasting away like the trumpeter but, nevertheless, you want the melody of the music you’re making to be picked up straight away. It is to help you fulfill this perfectly legitimate aspiration that we suggest you begin your music-making with not just an acoustic guitar but specifically a used acoustic guitar. Why? Because thanks to its earlier use by another guitarist, whether professional or amateur, the used acoustic guitar is more likely than not to have already ‘found’ its fully formed voice. With the passage of time a wood-based musical instrument like a guitar (or violin, for that matter) sheds the brittleness of its timber and becomes soft and mellowed with the cleaning up and rubbing with oil that comes with its proper maintenance. In a used acoustic guitar somebody else has already done the rubbing up for you! Besides, you’re likely to spend only half the cost of a brand new instrument – so it’s a bargain all the way!Fine, so where can you find cheap acoustic guitars? To start with, you’ll have to be certain that the acoustic guitar for sale won’t land you conned into buying an instrument you wouldn’t want. Generally, the used guitar could be one of four kinds: old used, new used, refurbished and needs work. Your best choice would be in finding an old used acoustic guitar for sale that’s ten years old or even older. A new used one would be fewer than five years old. If you’re lucky, you’ll find factory seconds or refurbished guitars on recent models. You must know what you’re buying: Is the neck twisted or bent? Is the neck joint flush to the body of the guitar? (It ought to be so. ) Is it plastic or wood? (Wood is definitely better. ) Do you have to change the strings? (If so, you can’t test the sound. )Online, you’ll find great bargains on acoustic guitars for sale of all categories. Look for sellers who have sold acoustic guitars before and have positive feedbacks. So now you know your what, why and how. Happy strumming!

An acoustic guitar does not have any electronic means of producing its sound. The music that comes out of it is a matter between the guitar and its player. Actually, once upon a time, all guitars were acoustic. Nowadays they need to be distinguished from electric guitars and acoustic guitars that have pickups in them to provide electronic means of amplification. To the beginner guitar player it could be a surprise that there is an enormous range of sizes, shapes and materials in acoustic guitars. To most acoustic guitar players who only play popular music, the main distinction is between nylon string and steel string acoustic guitars. Within the classification of acoustic guitars there’s the Baroque guitar, the classical guitar, the Renaissance guitar, the archtop guitar, the flamenco guitar and the twelve string guitar. The classical guitar is the basic model for the acoustic guitar. Even though steel string acoustic guitars have been developed with a cutaway body to help the guitarist reach the high notes, the classical guitar retains the standard shape which was more or less decided upon a couple of hundred years ago. Classical guitar players use their fingers to pluck and strum the strings, growing the nails on their right hands slightly longer than the nails on the left hand. Although it’s called a classical guitar, many guitarists from many genres have been seduced by the tone of the nylon string guitar. As a result you can find the nylon string sound in jazz, pop, folk or even blues music. The flamenco guitar looks similar to a classical guitar but is lighter in color and weight. The flamenco guitar is traditionally much brighter in sound than the classical guitar even though in recent years many flamenco guitarists have been playing instruments with a more mellow sound similar to the classical guitar. A distinguishing characteristic of the flamenco guitar is the tapping plate which is a piece of white or transparent plastic attached to the body of the guitar just below the sound hole. You will sometimes find flamenco guitars that are fitted with wooden tuning pegs instead of machine heads. All guitars had these kind of tuning pegs once but now they are only retained because some flamenco guitarists prefers them because they keep the weight of the guitar to a minimum. The twelve string guitar has six courses of strings, and it produces a much more complex sound than the six string. The twelve string guitar is made for strumming rather than picking or plucking because the individual courses do not easily lend themselves to single note playing. The twelve string has proved to be very attractive for guitarists who enjoyed experimenting with open tunings. Back in the 70s the image of Jimmy Page playing his double neck guitar was a rock ‘n roll icon. One neck was fitted with twelve strings which allowed him to move between six and twelve string guitar for different effects. Efforts to make the guitar heard above other instruments in jazz bands of the early twentieth century resulted not only in the production of the electric guitar, but also the resonator guitar. In the resonator guitar the sound is produced by metal cones instead of by the wooden body of the guitar. The resonator did not help much with amplification but its distinctive sound has made it a favorite with bluegrass and blues players.
