  1. If you think the joshua tree was their best record, if you thought it was cool when the edge started dressing like a boyband has-been, if you were one of the people that hailed “all you can’t leave behind” as a “return to the old sound,” then you’ll probably love this bad record. The truth is, joshua tree sucked, the edge is a loser who just wanted to sell records to pay for a new roof for his mansion, and all you can’t leave behind was recycled american pop, thrown in our faces to get at our wallets. “Boy” through “war” were Irish teenage frustration albums, and there is something great about them (except for maybe “october”). “Unforgettable” through “Joshua” were silly experimentation with american music. “Achtung” was recorded in germany and they got Eno on the team. “Zooropa” had ups and downs, but the direction they were going in was clear. They got Flood for the production on “Pop” and it turned out to be an intelligent, sarcastic, forward-thinking record. Seriously, look at who produced each record, and you’ll realize where the sounds come from. You think clayton or mullen do much? I’d give credit to Flood for that one. I also heard that they had a big white board of things Bono was not allowed to put into the songs, because they would be too stupid and cliche. “how to dismantle” is worse than “all you can’t leave. ” You don’t even get something catchy, like “beautiful day. ” I’ve heard the record through a few times, and i can’t think of one bass line, one bit of lyric, one melody. At least on “all you can’t leave” i could remember stupid lines like “i’m like a mole digging in a hole, now, excavation” or “you’ve got to get yourself together. ” This record had nothing. they are done. I was hoping they would at least go for silly electronic gimics, anything to keep my attention. Basically, it’s a straight rock record, stripped down to guitar, bass, drums, and vocal, but without any of the energy of the early days. They are old and tired, and apparently don’t even care anymore. Starting with a high point with “boy” and ending at an even higher point with “pop” would have been a sweet career. Now i’m just wondering how many bad records they’re going to do until they finally stop.

As if Zoorapa, Pop, and all That You Can’t Leave Behind weren’t bad enough, U2 continues their sucking spree with this, How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. I can’t believe this; and people say Metallica sold out, U2 became, literally, marketing tools! Anyone who calls this their best album is either:
    A, a new fan.
B, someone who hasn’t heard their best albums: War, Joshua Tree, and Achtung Baby
    or
    C, an idiot.
U2 is dead. Face it, they can never make a record as good as War, or Joshua tree, or Achtung Baby. I mean, for god’s sake, they appear of the “Now that’s what i call music” crapilation. I hope these guys realize how horrible they became, and then break up. Sad, so sad. . .

  3. U2 are selling out and playing what 16 years old kids want them to play. In other words, more ATYCLB stuff. Of course, those kids didn’t live Achtung Baby times. Rather, they experienced ATYCLB times. They loved it, because they pretended to experience what we experienced back in 1987, 1991 or 1993. The same thing happen here.

“It’s a classic”, “their third masterpiece”, “best since Achtung Baby”, etc. Those reviews sound like written by a bunch of 16-17 years old mainstream fans who just listen to the album once before writing their snapshot lines. But in the end, I do believe those reviews are written by U2′s marketing team. Just go to the first 100 reviews. Most of them were 5 stars ones. . . mmmm. . .

U2 stopped releasing decent material with POP. Despite I’m not crazy for it ( I’d give it 4 stars ) at least they took worthy risks with that album. U2 are not worth paying any attention to anymore. They look more like GQ models than musicians. They don’t sound unique anymore but merely a second rate “Rock” band.

Everything on this album sounds recycled. And when you’re in the musical recycling business, you truly do not grow or mature. So many critics mistake stagnation for growth and maturity, particularly for this album. Quite simply, HTDAAB is not growth. It is their worst regression ever. Stay away from this unless you are a die hard U2 and simply have to have just for the sake of having it, like those kids.

U2 have become very rich and all of that money seems to have dulled their whole creative vein. I’m tired of listening to little teenybopper mainstreamers who listen to whatever MTV tells them to and not to what has quality tell me that U2 did not sell out. Surely they’ve got their Ipod and I-Tunes. . .

  4. Adam Kruvand says:

U2 better dismantle this bomb before it is too late. This album tries to be something U2 is not. Instead of making ‘Pop’ music for the younger crowd – U2 needs to stick to the music that put them in stadiums and the rest of us have grown up with. Disappointing at best.

  5. This album is petty. The band doesn’t show any skill here. The album is remarkably commercial. THAT’S SO ANNOYING !!!
U2 has no richness here, neither depth. U2 doesn’t get through with this HTDAAB.
