despite people saying this book is for beginners, absolutely, positively untrue. Starts off with a bland lecture and teaching of how to read music that they do a horrible job teaching and after and if u learn how to read music, all the rest of the book is how to play the music itself in music language. Im a new beginner and this was no help at all and I love metallica, wish i did understand it.
First let me say that this book is meant for complete and absolute beginners. They attempt to teach you the basics are guitar and music theory, then throw in some metallica examples to illustrate it. However, most of the time, the examples aren’t even accurate representations of the music. For instance, in the “Fade To Black” example, they show which chords are being played in the acoustic section, but not the little fingerings going on between chords.
I think if this book had been much longer, it could’ve worked, but for the short 64 page length, it just couldn’t possibly do what it set out to do. To top it off, there are just so many other good Metallica riff or songbooks out there, this one just doesn’t compare. Skip it
This book is really great for just starting guitar! I love it and use it quite frequently. The only thing I don’ like about it is that it isn’t super in-depth, however it still covers most of the basics you need to get up and start playing, all using Metallica’s music. I you aren’t a huge Metallica fan, then this might not appeal to you, but for all you other Met Fans, ENJOY. Already bought part 2 and is shipping now.
