I have a secret, I had always wanted to learn how to play guitar, but I was to insecure to try. The closest I had gotten was playing Guitar Hero or Rock Band with my friends. But it was a poor substitution for the real thing, compared with actually getting to learn how to play guitar. And I was always secretly ashamed when my friends who were in real bands were around when we played the video games. I just felt like a poser next to those guys.
I t was a conversation with one of my guitar-playing friends that actually encouraged me to finally try learn how to play guitar. I had confided in him that I had always wanted to learn how to play guitar, and his reaction was, why not? He then confessed that the only reason why he had started was because it was either that or the clarinet in the school band, and that the guitar seemed much cooler. As good as a reason as any to learn how to play guitar.
But when I asked my friend to help me learn to play guitar, he laughed. He said that just because he was a good guitar player didn’t necessarily mean that he would be a good teacher, and in fact, he might hinder me more than help me in my quest to learn how to play guitar. He told me I would just pick up all of his bad habits, and that was no way to start my guitar playing career.
I was surprised by what he suggested instead, though. He told me that I would be best off getting a learning package online to help me learn how to play guitar. He explained to me that I would be able to learn at my own pace on my own time, which was perfect for my busy schedule. And, since I was a little bit insecure about starting and being really bad, I could do it by myself, and not reveal that I was going to learn how to play guitar until I felt comfortable with playing in front of other people.
